Origin of Mechanical Engineering

Origin of mechanical engineering is happened in ancient period. It is not a newly introduced branch of study.

The application of principles of mechanical engineering was first started by our ancient peoples. The six classic simple machines viz, Wedge, Inclined plane, Lever, Pulley and Wheel & Axle were invented by our ancestors during 5 millennium BC. These were discovered and used by our ancestors in the ancient periods. The wedge and inclined plane (also called ramp) were in use in prehistoric people. The wheel and axle mechanism and pulleys were invented in Mesopotamia which is presently in Iraq during the 5th millennium BC. The lever mechanism was first used by Egyptians in a mechanical common balance and to move large objects.

Mechanical engineering was first emerged as a field of learning during the industrial revolution in Europe in the 18th century. In the 19th century, developments in physics led to the development of Mechanical Engineering Science.

Mechanical engineering is branch of study that combines the study of physics and mathematics together with the principles of material science for designing, analyzing, manufacturing and maintaining the working of mechanical systems. It is one of the oldest and broadest part of the engineering and technology.
